Storage

The following types of storage are available to campus researchers. Please submit a descriptive RT ticket with any questions or specific requests, and someone from the Research Computing & Data Team will respond within two business days.

Retriever Research Storage (RRStor)

The RRStor system is comprised of more than two dozen Ceph nodes that generate more than 2.4PiB in hard drive storage and 110TiB in NVMe storage.

Default Allocations

A research group created within our research computing infrastructure (RCI) is guaranteed a default allocation of 10TiB of space. More space may be available to your research group based on individual, center, department, or college contributions to our infrastructure.

Enhanced Allocations

These enhanced allocations granting more than the default of 10TiB within our RCI are accompanied by formal agreements that last for no more than five years. At present, these agreements must be joined by contributed funds at multiples of roughly $30,000. This $30,000 funds the purchase of additional storage hardware, hardware support, and third-party software support. The cost of power, cooling, physical space, networking, maintenance, and administration is covered by DoIT. Please reach out to the Research Computing & Data Team via RT (under “User Support”, above).

Storage Volume Auditing

Auditing policies around storage volumes are currently under review and will be made available here in the near future. Please reach out to the Shared Infrastructure Governance committee if you would like to weigh-in on this policy discussion.
