The Reynolds research group in the UMBC Department of Mathematics and Statistics designs novel time integration algorithms for large-scale multiphysics applications. We perform core numerical methods research, implement these within open-source software libraries, and directly collaborate with applications scientists.

Our current grants are in collaboration with multiple DOE national laboratories to continue development of the award-winning SUNDIALS library, and to improve the accuracy and efficiency of simulations for magnetically-confined fusion plasmas.

We use local HPC resources (like Chip) for basic method development and small- to medium-scale performance optimization, before transitioning to large-scale supercomputing facilities (NERSC, OLCF, ALCF) for production-level simulations.
