Exploring the Transcriptional Signatures of Anoxia and Hypoxia in Zebrafish

Oxygen deprivation can be detrimental to many organisms and is implicated in acute trauma and chronic disease. Organisms such as the zebrafish exhibit a tolerance to low oxygen (hypoxia) and conditions in which oxygen is absent (anoxia) by altering their metabolism. Among the cellular aspects modified, gene expression is a good indicator of the genetic pathways implicated in adaptation. This analysis compares gene expression profiles of zebrafish exposed to hypoxia and anoxia, asking which genes are differentially higher in expression in both conditions and which are higher in only one of the two conditions.
